Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: 37th annual Queen City Road Race, Boating Safety Course and Exam and Spring Break Tumbling Camp.

37th Annual Queen City Road Race

Register for the 37th annual Queen City Road Race

It’s time to lace up those running shoes for the Queen City Road Race 5K, 7K, and One Mile Movement, scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. Register now through April 17th to receive the “early bird” rate of only $20.00. After that date, you may register through race day, but the cost will be $25.00.

Registration for the Queen City Road Race is simple. Those registering in the 7K and the 5K may do so online or in person. Online registration can be completed by visiting www.cityofclarksville.com/qcrr.

Participants in the One Mile Movement can register online at www.cityofclarksville.com/qcrr , by mail or in person at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office at 102 Public Square, Clarksville, Tennessee, 37040.

The cost to participate in the One Mile Movement has been the same low price for over 30 years – only $5.00 and includes a moisture wicking race t-shirt (limited to the first 1900 registrants).

Boating Safety Course and Exam

Have you recently decided on purchasing a boat, or do you want to brush up on the safety precautions of boating? Come join Clarksville Parks and Recreation and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit in the new boating safety class. This class is good for all types of boats, motorized and non-motorized, and open to ages 12 and up.

Topics such as the importance of wearing life jackets, safe boating practices, the right boat for you, the correct use of a VHF Radio, lines and knots, weather, and more will be covered.

This one-day class will be held Saturday, May 2nd at the Crow Community Center from 9:00am-4:30pm, with registration beginning at 8:30am. Breaks will be taken as needed throughout the day.

The course will end with an exam, and upon passing the exam participants will be issued a wallet boating safety education certificate, as proof of successful completion. Before arriving to class, be sure to purchase a Type 600 Boating Safety Exam Permit from any business that sells hunting/fishing licenses. This receipt will be your ticket to take the exam.

Don’t miss Spring Break Tumbling Camp this March

Clarksville Parks and Recreation has teamed up with American Twisters Tumbling to bring a tumbling camp to the community during the CMCSS spring break, March 9th-12th!

Camp will be held at 438 Kelly Lane, from 10:00am until 2:00pm, for ages 6-16. The cost to attend is $40.00 per person. Space is available but limited, so sign up now by visiting www.cityofclarksville.com and clicking the link to our online registration portal.

Registration can also be completed at any of our three community centers as well as our main office, located at 102 Public Square.
