Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – For the third week in a row junior Breigh Jones, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Jones broke the school record – again – at the Alex Wilson Invitational, becoming the first Austin Peay athlete to break the 54-second barrier in the indoor 400m dash with a 53.96 mark, finishing third. According to research, that is the best mark posted by an Ohio Valley Conference athlete in the indoor 400m this century.

The Memphis Tennessee native continues to lead the OVC in the event and ranks 40th nationally.

Among the country’s junior class, Jones’ mark ranks her 12th in the nation.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore outfielder Cayce Bredlau, of the baseball team, hit .462 (6-for-13) with four runs, two doubles and a grand slam as part of a 7-RBI weekend for the Govs at Samford.
  • Junior guard Tiasha Gray, of the women’s basketball team, poured in a game-high 36 points – one off her career-high – and tied a program-record with eight three-pointers at Murray State, Saturday.
