Durrett asked Co-owner Tia Suiter, what the company did to earn green certification.

“The hardest part was getting these men on board, Suiter joked. My husband and Co-owner of Appleton, Danny Suiter, was a big help in getting our team on board with the changes. We did some things before the program, like upgrading lighting which gave us a big rebate and lowered our energy bills. We sold our oil, reused packaging and sold the good parts off bikes that were no longer in service,” stated Suiter.

“After the program, Mary Rose, our general manager, and I dug for more ways to save. We started recycling everything we could with Bi-County which drastically cut down our trash output, we found additional outlets for items that could be reused, eliminated Styrofoam cups in the break room to cut down on trash and spending and encouraged reusable cups,” said Suiter.

“We’ve been turning things off, adjusting thermostats and shutting things down that aren’t used and we have plans to start heating the service area with our own oil to further cut down on energy usage. It’s really tough for locally owned businesses to make ends meet. Programs like this help make the difference. We’ve got to do what it takes to survive and sometimes changing culture is part of that,” stated Suiter.

“We appreciate what you’ve done through the program but more importantly, we appreciate your family and the rich history your business brings to this community,” said Durrett.
