Clarksville’s Customs House Museum to host exhibits by Chicago Artist Sergio Gomez

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Chicago-based artist Sergio Gomez brings his bold figurative works to the Customs House Museum with the exhibit The Land In Between.

Exhibited in the two-story Crouch Gallery, the moody, ghost-like forms that anchor Gomez’s large paintings appear restless and calm at the same time, amid dripping colors and spackled landscapes.

The lack of framing lends to the feeling of floating, mystical environments that face the viewer more as an abstract reflection than a portrait.

Sergio says of his art “I am interested in the human and spiritual experience throughout the cycles of life. The human figures stand still, observe, communicate and/or listen, as they exist in their physical state. Overall, I appeal for a sense of human awareness and spiritual consciousness.”

Sergio Gomez received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University. His work has been exhibited in solo shows throughout the United States, Italy and Vienna. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Spain, Sweden, London, Mexico and the U.S… Sergio’s work can be found in private and public collections, such as the National Museum of Mexican Art, Brauer Art Museum, and the MIIT Museo Internazionale Italia Arte.

Currently, Sergio Gomez is the owner & director of 33 Contemporary Gallery, Director of Exhibitions at the Zhou B. Art Center, contributor for Italia Arte Magazine, Art/Design faculty at South Suburban College, creative consultant for Idea Seat Marketing and Advertising and co-founder of 3c Wear.

He has curated special projects for the Chicago Park District, ArtSpot Miami International Art Fair during Art Basel Week, National Museum of Mexican Art, and ExpoChicago among others. Sergio has also been a key individual in the revival of the New Art Examiner magazine. Additionally, Sergio has established international art collaborations in Italy, Austria, Mexico, Spain, Chile and China.

The Land In Between will be on exhibit March 5th through May 7th.  For more information on above events contact Terri Jordan, Exhibits Curator, at 931.648.5780 or terri@customshousemuseum.org
