The first Govs player to receive weekly honors this season, Massoni shared the honor with Belmont infielder Matt Beaty who recorded 11 hits and seven extra-base hits during the week.

Belmont pitcher Tyler Vaughn was named the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Massoni, of Danville, California, batted .615 (8-for-13) during the Govs series against Eastern Illinois. He hit two doubles and a home run and finished with four runs scored and four RBI in the three-game set.

The junior transfer went 5-for-5 in the series opener, becoming the first Govs hitter to post a 5-for-5 outing since Reed Harper in 2013. Massoni started the outing with three singles then hit a sixth-inning double followed by his first home run in the eighth inning, a solo shot that was part of the Govs first back-to-back home runs since 2012.

He went 1-for-4 in Sunday’s nightcap, adding a RBI single to his total. Massoni wrapped up the series with a 2-for-4 effort that included a RBI double and RBI single as the Govs opened OVC play with a three-game sweep of the Panthers.
