APSU’s Trahern Gallery 108 to hold “Forget Me Not” senior thesis solo exhibition by Samantha Black

APSU Department of Art - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Local printmaker Samantha Black will be displaying her linoleum and woodblock prints in the show “Forget Me Not” at APSU’s Trahern Gallery 108 from April 6th-9th, 2015 between 10:00am–5:00pm.

The opening reception is free to the public and takes place on Monday, April 6th from 5:00pm-8:00pm.

Black’s solo exhibition will display portraits of elderly men and women, some of which are from the nursing home that Black has been associated with for the past 12 years. Black uses strong marks that are carved into linoleum or wood to construct portraits that exaggerate the aging process.

The final portraits are printed on delicate rice paper that could symbolize the thin, fragility of the skin of an elderly person.

“We are able to learn so much by sitting down and speaking with an elderly person, they have so much knowledge about life before us”, Black said.
