APSU Lady Govs Softball takes on Tennessee State, Belmont this weekend in OVC action

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will head to Nashville this weekend for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders, with the Lady Govs squaring off against Tennessee State and Belmont.

The Lady Govs (2-14, 1-2 OVC) will open play 1:00pm, Saturday at Tennessee State and conclude their Nashville swing Sunday, with a 1:00pm doubleheader at Rose Park versus Belmont.

Austin Peay enters the weekend coming after losing this week’s OVC mid-week series (1-2) with Eastern Illinois. The Lady Govs won Wednesday’s opener, 8-7, to break a 12-game losing streak as well as opening league play with a victory for the first time since 2008.

APSU's Christiana GableOffensively, the Lady Govs are led by Christiana Gable (.370/5 HR/16 RBI) – including a 6-for-10 effort in the EIU series.

Laurel Burroughs (.356/4 HR/11 RBI) and Niya Sparks (.314/4 HR/9 RBI) also enter the weekend hitting above .300 for the season.

In the circle, Allie Blackwood (1-2/7.50 ERA/12 K’s) and Natalie Ayala (1-6/8.52 ERA/12 K’s) lead the Lady Govs pitching staff.

Tennessee State (8-15, 1-2 OVC) comes into the doubleheader with a balanced offensive attack that boasts six .300 hitters in its lineup, led by Kailey Richard’s .333 batting average and team-best 12 RBI.

APSU's Laurel BurroughsTaylor Green leads the Lady Tigers pitchers with a 5-6 record, with a 7.91 ERA and 32 K’s.

Belmont (5-16, 0-2 OVC) will play a doubleheader versus Murray State, Saturday, before facing the Lady Govs. The Bruins enter the weekend having dropped 10 straight contests.

Kat Hollingsworth (.333/2 HR/13 RBI) leads the Bruins offense, while Taylor Moon (2-10/5.30 ERA/38 K’s) has been the workhorse for the Belmont pitching staff.
