Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUOcala, FL – For the second straight day, junior Austin Peay State University women’s golfer Jessica Cathey shot a 3-over 75. But her younger teammates unfortunately could not provide her much help, Monday, as the Lady Govs slipped to 17th overall heading into the final day of the 2015 MSU Ocala Spring Invitational, being played at the Juliette Falls Golf Resort.

After an opening day 319, the Lady Govs shot a second-round 324 and the two-day total leaves them at 643.

Daytona State leads after two days at 596 followed by Elon and South Dakota State (597). The three-day, 54-hole event will conclude Tuesday morning on the par-72, 6,113-yard layout.

Cathey enters the final day tied for 17th after consecutive 75s. The two-time first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection had one double bogey on the day but worked around it to finish at 3-over.

“Jessica played very solid again today,” APSU coach Sara Robson. “One swing led to a double. Other than that she battled all day long.”

Cathey’s grind-it-out approach could be a lesson learned by her teammates. Sophomore Morgan Gardner owned APSU’s second-best score with an 81 while freshman AnnaMichelle Moore and Ana Pope both shots 84s with sophomore Morgan Kauffman came in at 86.

“Gardner played well minus a couple of holes,” Robson said. “AnnaMichelle and Pope are going through a few freshman growing pains. We intend to learn from each round and strive to improve.

“It is difficult to watch them struggle. They desire to play well but trying to ‘make it happen or expect it to happen’ isn’t going to work. We have to continue to push through this difficult stretch and earn it daily.”
