Clarksville, TN – On March 31st, the Customs House Museum will present a Writers’ Hour event in conjunction with its invitational exhibit celebrating women artists.
Local authors will read from their works that are themed to the museum’s show, In the Garden.
“The museum has held several readings in the past,” states Exhibits Curator Terri Jordan. “It is interesting to hear the variety of poems and stories from our local writers. Often funny, and sometimes sad, the audience is always blown away with the talent we have in the Clarksville area.”
From 1985 through 2009, she was a featured writer for the NATS Journal of Singing, with her column “New Directions.” Amy Wright is an assistant professor of creative writing at APSU. She received her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), English Language and Literature at the University of Denver.
Her work appears in a number of journals including American Letters & Commentary and Quarterly West, and is anthologized in The Southern Poetry Anthology, Volume III: Southern Appalachia. She is the prose editor of APSU’s Zone 3 Press.
Shana Thornton is publisher, author, and creator of Breathe Your OM Balance™. She was Editor-in-Chief of Her Circle Ezine, a women’s online magazine dedicated to arts and activism. She has written artist and author interviews as well as fiction and features and has done free-lance writing.
The Customs House’s Writers’ Hour will take place within the In the Garden exhibit, which features visual artists from throughout Tennessee. Set with informal salon seating, the reading event takes place at 6:00pm and is free to the public.
