Austin Peay (16-12, 9-6 OVC) trailed 9-0 after six innings when Gray started his home run display.

He hit a two-run home run in the seventh to get the Govs on the scoreboard. One inning later he belted a three-run blast to trim the deficit to 11-5.

That home run set up a furious ninth-inning rally by the Govs. Southeast Missouri saw one-out error prove costly as the Govs scored six runs with two outs. Cayce Bredlau had a pinch hit RBI single to start the scoring, right fielder Patrick Massoni followed with a RBI double and center fielder Chase Hamilton tacked on a two-run single, cutting the deficit to two runs, 11-9.

APSU's Logan GrayHamilton’s hit brought Gray to the plate again and Southeast Missouri countered by bringing in closer Matthew Wade. The Redhawks pitcher threw two strikes to start the at-bat but Gray hit his third pitch over the wall in right field, tying the game.

Southeast Missouri (19-12, 11-4 OVC) would get the first quality scoring chance in extra innings. The Redhawks loaded the bases with one out in the 11th inning only to see APSU reliever Levi Primasing escape by striking out back-to-back hitters.

Austin Peay had its turn in the 12th when designated hitter Kyle Blackburn was hit by the first pitch of the inning.

APSU's Dre GleasonFirst baseman Dre Gleason‘s single allowed Blackburn to move to third. The Govs attempted a safety squeeze with second baseman Chase Mitchell at the plate, but the bunt was fielded cleanly and Blackburn was thrown out at home.

The Redhawks broke through in the 13th when third baseman Trevor Ezell hit a one-out single. He advanced to second on a wild pitch but Primasing got a fly out for the second out. Designated hitter Nolan Fisher lined a 3-2 pitch over Gray’s head at third base and Ezell scampered home to end the game.

Primasing (2-1) suffered the loss after allowing the winning run in 2.2 innings of relief, striking out three batters.

Govs starter Zach Hall, making his first start in 10 days, did not make it out of the second inning, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in 1.2 innings.

Ryan Lenaburg (2-2) picked up the win after recording the final two outs in the top of the 13th inning. The late rally negated starting pitcher Alex Winkleman’s seven-inning effort that saw him allow two runs on five hits.

Gray finished the game 3-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBI, the first three home run, seven-RBI outing by a Govs hitter since Jake Lane in 2006.

APSU's Chase HamiltonHamilton, who entered the game in the eighth inning, went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Ezell led Southeast Missouri with a 4-for-6, three RBI performance that included a leadoff home run in the first inning and a two-run double in the fifth as Southeast Missouri raced out to a 9-0 advantage. First baseman Ryan Rippee and catcher Hunter Leeper each had a three-hit, two-RBI outing.

Austin Peay returns to action when it opens a six-game homestand with a 6:00pm, Wednesday contest against Middle Tennessee.
