APSU Lady Govs Softball to play home game against Middle Tennessee, Monday

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play host to Middle Tennessee for a 3:00pm, Monday, single game at Cheryl Holt Field, the first Monday contest in the facility’s history.

The last home Monday contest for the Lady Govs (8-21) came on March 1st, 1999, a year before Austin Peay started playing its home contests at the formerly named Lady Govs Field, when it hosted Belmont for a doubleheader at Edith Pettus Park.

The last overall Monday contest for Austin Peay came April 26th, 2010, with a doubleheader at SIU Edwardsville.

This also will be the second meeting this year between the Lady Govs and Blue Raiders (14-19), with the two squads meeting previously in the Mississippi State Bulldog Classic, February 8th, with APSU losing 8-5.

Offensively, the Lady Govs enter the matchup with three players hitting .300-or-better through 29 games, led by Niya Sparks‘ .324 batting average, six home runs and 16 RBI, while Chandler Groves (.314/4 HR/22 RBI) and Christiana Gable (.300/6 HR/26 RBI) round out the trio.

Middle Tennessee is led at the plate by Cor’Nisha Birdsong, who enters the contest batting .373, including six doubles and 17 RBI to go with 30 stolen bases.

In the circle, Natalie Ayala (4-7, 6.42 ERA, 29 Ks) leads the Lady Govs pitching staff, with Sidney Hooper (2-6, 7.05 ERA, 20 Ks) also recording multiple wins this season.

Kelci Cheney (8-11, 3.89 ERA, 57 Ks) leads the Blue Raiders pitching staff.
