Jonesboro, AR – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team could not maintain its early momentum, Sunday, but still finished in a seventh-place tie in the 19th Annual A-State Red Wolves Intercollegiate, played at the RidgePoint Country Club.
The Govs ended up with a final-round 7-over 295 to finish with an 892 overall. Delta State won the event with an 876 on the par-72, 6,565-yard layout.
Although the Govs weren’t able to record the finish they desired, the team’s bottom portion of the lineup may have been solidified. Both freshman Justin Arens and sophomore Erik Hedberg struggled during Saturday’s first round but Arens played the final 36 at 3-under (71-70) for a 222, tying him with Chris Baker for team low and 23rd overall.
Hedberg, meanwhile, played those same 36 at 1-under (71-72) and finished at 223, tying him for 28th. Senior Tucker Wallace shot a final-round 76 to finish at 227 while junior Austin Kramer, the Govs’ top golfer this season, continued his struggles with a 77—the same Sunday score as Baker—to end at 232.
“A great start today by our guys,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson said. “Justin and Eric really played well today and we are proud of the way they responded after the first round.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain our momentum down the stretch. We realized we are only a handful of shots of being where we want to be.”
