Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for April 5th, 2015

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Meet Davy Crockett, Homeschool Swim Day, Spring Family Campout, Movies in the Park, and Zumba.

Family Campout

Meet Davy Crockett

See history come to life as you meet the legendary Davy Crockett at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center! Arthur Hunt will offer an authentic characterization of Tennessee’s most famous volunteer, Davy Crockett. Come to hear stories from Crockett’s youth all the way until his departure to Texas exactly the way Davy would tell them himself.

Meet Davy Crockett will be held Saturday, April 25th at 10:00am and again at 2:00pm. Admission is free.

Homeschool Swim Day

Homeschooled children and their families can enjoy a splashing good time at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, on Wednesday, April 8th with Homeschool Swim Day!

Homeschool Swim Days is held from 10:00am to noon on the second Wednesday of each month and offers swimming, refreshments, and access to the Wibit inflatables. Cost to attend is $3.00 per person, including adults.

Spring Family Campout

Sleep under the stars at Billy Dunlop Park on May 16th through 17th! The Family Campout is $10.00 per person or $40.00 per family (up to 6 members) and will include an afternoon and evening of games and fun as well as a hot dog dinner and breakfast provided Sunday morning.

Families must provide their own tent and sleeping materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Be sure to pre-register by midnight Thursday, May 14th at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park is gearing up for its 10th season of bringing outdoor movies to the Clarksville community! The 2015 season of Movies in the Park kicks off on May 2nd at Heritage Park.

The schedule of movie dates, titles, and locations is as follows:

September 10th Riverfest Film Festival
September 26th Into the Woods
October 10th Star Trek Into Darkness

 

Picnics, blankets, and chairs are welcomed, but concessions will also be available for purchase at the park. As always, admission to Movies in the Park is free!

Zumba

Get your groove on and shake off those pounds with Zumba at the Burt-Cobb Community Center! Zumba is a fun and exciting way to dance away tons of calories. In fact, you may forget you’re actually working out!

Classes are held each Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm at the Burt-Cobb Center, located at 1011 Franklin Street. The cost is just $3.00 per class with a Community Center ID.
