Nashville Sounds blast five homers to take down Colorado Springs Sky Sox 16-11

Nine-Run Sixth Inning Largest Since 2011 Season

Nashville SoundsColorado Springs, CO – The Sounds offense launched five home runs and posted a nine-run sixth inning to help Nashville cruise to a 16-11 win and take the series finale against Colorado Springs at Security Service Field on Sunday afternoon

Bryan Anderson (2-for-5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI), Joey Wendle (3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI), Kent Matthes (2-for-5, 2 R, RBI) and Andy Parrino (2-for-5, HR, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) all went yard to help Nashville improve to 3-1 on the season. The Sounds had 10 extra-base hits in total and have now won three straight.

Scoring went back-and-forth in the early innings, as the Sky Sox took a 5-4 advantage after five frames.

But Nashville grabbed the lead in a big way to open the sixth and never looked back.

The Sounds sent 13 batters to the plate, collected 10 hits and scored nine runs to bust the game wide open. The big inning was capped when Wendle blasted a three-run bomb and Matthes followed by taking the very next pitch out as well. It was the first time the Sounds had scored nine or more runs in an inning since August 10, 2011, when Nashville plated 10 runs in the seventh inning of an 11-9 victory over the Reno Aces.

Parrino added his solo shot in the seventh and Wendle followed it up with his second of the game in the eighth. It was the second time in the infielder’s career to have a multi-homer game, the last coming on July 8th, 2013.

In the end, Nashville used another balanced offensive attack and outhit the Sky Sox, 18-13. Alden Carrithers (3 R, 2B, BB) doubled his season hit total coming into the game by going 4-for-4 and Anthony Aliotti (2 2B, 5 RBI) was 3-for-5 hitting in the ninth spot of the lineup.

Arnold Leon was facing Colorado Springs for the fifth time in his career but was knocked around for five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. He fanned four and surrendered a pair of long balls.

Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte (W, 0.2 IP, H, BB, K) relieved Leon in the fifth and recorded two outs to earn the win.

With a series win under their belt, Nashville will travel to Oklahoma City to visit the Dodgers for a four-game set at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark starting on Monday. Left-hander Brad Mills makes his first start of the season and is scheduled to compete against Joe Wieland in the 7:05pm game.
