After sitting in fourth place after the day’s opening round, the Govs slipped to 9th place midway through the second round.

But senior Tucker Wallace, the Govs’ No. 3 player who played the morning round at 3-under 69, birdied two of his final five holes to put him a 2-under 70 for the round. Wallace is in sixth place overall at 139.

Austin Kramer, the Govs’ No. 1 player who played the first 12 holes at 4-over, rallied to birdie three of his final four holes to finish at 1-over 73 and 145 on the day.

But it was No. 2 Chris Baker, who took birdie train to another station. Reminiscent of his 61 in Alabama, Baker birdied five of his last seven holes to finish with APSU’s best round of the day, a 68, that left him at 4-under 140 on the day. On the day, Baker tied for the tourney lead in birdies (13) plus had an eagle—he is tied for 7th overall.

Overall the Govs had four of the top 14 players achieving birdies as Wallace, Justin Arens and Tyler Phillips all had nine birdies on the day.

Freshman Arens finished the day at 148 (73-75) while sophomore Erik Hedberg was at 153 (75-78). Junior Tyler Phillips, playing as an individual, shot a 147 (72-75).

“We made a lot of birdies today and played well in spurts,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson said. “We didn’t have the par 5s too well or we would have been near the top of the leaderboard.

“Everyone is showing signs of really good play and we forward to another opportunity tomorrow.”

Army is leading the tournament, shooting 277-279 (556), one shot ahead of host Wofford.  The tourney’s final round will be played Tuesday morning.
