Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUSpartanburg, SC – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team may not have received the finishing kick it was seeking in the final round of 27th Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational, but the Governors came away with many positives heading into next week’s Ohio Valley Conference championship.

The Governors shot a final-round even-par 288, Tuesday, to finish at 4-under 860 and in a sixth—place with USC UpState. Army won the event with an 834, followed by host Wofford at 840.

“I am really proud of the way we played this week,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson said. “We made enough birdies to compete for the win but unfortunately we made too many bogeys. All in all it was a great tune up for the OVC’s next week.”

Senior Tucker Wallace, who has been in the APSU starting lineup much of his four-year career, played one of his most consistent tournaments of his career, shooting below each round (69-70-71) to finish in a seventh-place tie with a 6-under 210.

APSU’s other below-par round came from freshman Justin Arens, Tuesday, shooting 2-under 70 for a 218 score and a 29th-place tie.

After running off birdies on three of four holes to get to one under, junior Chris Baker finished with bogeys on his final two holes to finish at 73 on the day. It was good enough for a 15th-place tie at 3-under 213.

Meanwhile, sophomore Erik Hedberg proved to be the Govs’ other scorer, Tuesday, shooting a 74 to finished at 227.

Junior Austin Kramer was solid with a 3-over 75 and finished at 4-over 220 for the tournament for a 39th-place tie.

Playing as an individual, junior Tyler Phillips shot his second straight 75 to end at 6-over 222.

To Wilson’s point about birdies, Baker finished tied for second in total birdies with 16—he played the par 5s at 7-under—for the tourney while Arens had 14, Phillips 13 and Wallace 12. Wallace also had 33 pars. In fact, he played the par 3 holes at even while averaging 3.97 on the par 4s, leading to his second Top 10 finish this season and fourth of his career.
