Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team begins a four-game homestand when it hosts Lipscomb in a 6:00pm, Tuesday nonconference contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (21-16) has enjoyed the comfort of Raymond C. Hand Park this season, posting a 15-6 record at home. The Govs offense has particularly enjoyed the home field, posting a .322 team batting average and 8.4 runs per game.

Catcher Ridge Smith moved into the leadoff spot last week and made an immediate impact. The Cordova, Tennessee, product batted an impressive .706 (12-for-17) in four games with a .773 on-base percentage. That effort included a 5-for-5 outing in the Eastern Kentucky series opener, Friday.

The Govs will turn to right-hander Caleb Powell to start Tuesday contest. He picked up a win against Southern Illinois, Wednesday, in his last midweek outing to improve to 5-1 this season. Powell held the Salukis to three runs on five hits and did not walk a batter in five innings of work.

Lipscomb (24-13) has won five of its last six outings, including a three-game sweep of Atlantic Sun foe USC Upstate last weekend. The Bisons knocked off then-No. 1 Vanderbilt in a midweek outing, April 7th, and have been on a tear since.

Right-hander Kyle Weller will climb the hill for Lipscomb, looking to build on a victory against Murray State, Tuesday. He held the Racers to two runs on five hits in six innings to improve to 5-0 this season.

Tuesday’s contest will be the second of three meetings between the two teams. Austin Peay won the season’s first meeting, 5-2, February 25th. Austin Peay’s Alex Robles was the starting pitcher that contest and picked up the win while helping his own cause with a 2-for-4, two RBI effort at the plate.
