Nashville Sounds plate 11 for comeback win over Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Erase 5-0 Deficit To Win 11-5

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – After falling behind 5-0, the Nashville Sounds rallied to score 11 unanswered runs to defeat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 11-5.

Things did not look great for the Sounds early after former Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito (3.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) was unable to make it out of the 4th inning after yielding five straight two-out hits.

The Sounds offense would got cooking behind outfielder Billy Burns. The speedster continued his stellar early season performance, once again serving as the Sounds offensive catalyst.

Burns used his elite speed all night long, scoring twice on wild pitches from Sky Sox starter Taylor Jungmann as well as stealing his fifth base of the season.

Burns (2-for-4) also picked up his 2nd and 3rd RBI’s of the season with a two-out single in the fifth.

The hit extended the inning for Joey Wendle (1-for-4) who drove in the tying run with a single down the third base line.

The score remained locked at five for one more inning before the Sounds turned this one into a rout. Andy Parrino (1-for-2) and Niuman Romero (2-for-3) leaded off the seventh with back-to back singles and were both bunted into scoring position by Anthony Aliotti (1-for-2). With Burns batting, David Goforth threw a wild pitch to score Parrino. It was the third run the Sounds scored off a wild pitch on the night.

Goforth then walked Burns and was lifted for Brent Leach. Leach would go ahead on Wendle 0-2, but then hit the Sounds second baseman to load the bases. Jason Pridie (1-for-4) hit a slow roller to second and was able to beat out throw at first to score a run.

Bryan Anderson (0-for-4) then hit a grounder at Sky Sox first baseman Matt Clark, who booted it and another run scored. Kent Matthes (1-for-4) then stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and emptied them, his double gave the Sounds a 11-5 lead.

Pat Venditte (2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB 1 K) came on for Zito and retired the side. The switch-handed pitcher extended his innings-scoreless streak to 10.0 to start the season.

Brock Huntzinger (1-0) earned the win while David Goforth (0-2) suffered his second loss of the series.

With the win, the Sounds win their first home series of the season. Next on tap is the Oklahoma City Dodgers (9-3) who will send Carlos Frias (1-0. 3.68) to the mound. The Sounds (7-5) will counter with Angel Castro (0-0, 4.50 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
