Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports One taken to Vanderbilt after State Highway 48-13 shooting

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOMontgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in investigating an early morning shooting on State Highway 48-13 that sent one to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Around 1:30am, a man was heading south on State Highway 48-13 just before State Highway 149 when a vehicle drove up behind him and tapped his vehicle in the rear. The alleged victim’s vehicle stalled and he pulled over just before Highway 149.

The man in the other vehicle began firing at the alleged victim from his vehicle, so the victim returned fire and shot the alleged suspect, who turned his vehicle around and began driving back towards downtown Clarksville.

Just past Dean Road, the alleged suspect pulled over and fell out of the car. Units responded and the suspect was transported via LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The alleged victim had minor injuries and refused medical transport.

The victim has been identified as Ellis Clippinger, 22, of Clarksville. The suspect, who remains at Vanderbilt, has been identified as Brian Matthew Caudle, 49, who gave a Cunningham, Tennessee address.

The incident is currently under investigation and no more information is available at this time.
