Nashville Sounds drop second game to Oklahoma City Dodgers, 5-2

Nashville Pitchers Tie Season-High With 13 Strikeouts

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds ran into some stout pitching on Wednesday night at First Tennessee Park and suffered their second loss of the series to Oklahoma City, 5-2.

The Dodgers came out swinging and jumped on top in the opening frame. Buck Britton ripped a run-scoring triple, Kyle Jensen followed with a sacrifice fly and Oklahoma City had a 2-0 lead before Nashville ever got a chance to hit.

Nashville pushed a run across in the fifth when Jason Pridie led off with a single and Andy Parrino hit him in two batters later.

Pridie added a solo home run in the ninth inning, but the Sounds were outhit 11-8 and fell to 7-7 on the season.

The Sounds had other chances, grabbing a leadoff double from Joey Wendle in the sixth and a one-out triple from Parrino in the seventh, but failed to cash in on either opportunity. They finished 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Right-hander Zach Lee worked ahead in the count most of the night and turned in a stellar start for the Dodgers. He struck out five batters and kept the Sounds to just one run during his 7.0 innings of work. Lee improved to 3-0 with an ERA at 0.95 through his first three starts of the season.

Nathan Long saw his first action on the mound in a Sounds uniform on Wednesday night. The right-hander was added from Double-A Midland earlier in the day and made the start in place of Arnold Leon, who was recalled by Oakland. Long took the loss by going 4.2 innings and surrendering four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

The bullpen continued their streak of strong outings as Kevin Whelan (2.1 IP, 0 R), Brock Huntzinger (1.0 IP, 1 ER) and Eury De La Rosa (1.0 IP, 0 R) struck out a combined seven batters in relief.

The two teams are back to it again Thursday night with a 7:05pm start time at First Tennessee Park. Left-hander Brad Mills (0-2, 7.27) is slated to pitch against Mike Bolsinger.
