APSU Track and Field sends talented group to Drake Relays

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – A small but talented contingent of Austin Peay State University track and field team members will compete at the 106th Drake Relays, April 23-25, in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake Stadium.

Sophomore triple-jumpers Kaylnn Pitts and Chancis Jones will step forward into a stout field featuring 17 of the nation’s top 75 triple jumpers, including Baylor’s Brianna Richardson (third), Texas Tech’s Viershanie Latham (10th) and Iowa State’s Jhoanmy Luque (12th). Pitts ranks 23rd and Jones is 53rd nationally entering the weekend.

A trio of runners will look to improve their standings in the Ohio Valley Conference race will get a chance in a high-caliber meet. Seniors Erika Adams (fourth, 100m) and Jessica Gray (fourth, 800m) and sophomore Myiah Johnson (fifth, 100m hurdles) each appear poised for big days in Des Moines.

Austin Peay will send athletes for the 4x100m and sprint medley relays as well. Adams, juniors Breigh Jones, Lamontra Robinson and Kymmalett Ross will compete in Friday’s 4x100m event, while Jones, Ross, Gray and freshman Sonja White will try their hand at the sprint medley relay. With no 400m event, Jones will get a chance to represent herself in both relays at this prestigious event.

Austin Peay returns a full contingent next week at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, May 1st-2nd, in Columbus, Ohio.
