Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will close out the road portion of its 2015 regular-season schedule this weekend with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Murray State.
The Lady Govs (9-31, 5-16 OVC) open the three-game series with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader at Racer Field, and conclude the matchup, at 1:00pm, on Sunday with a single contest.
Austin Peay comes into the matchup after a mid-week OVC doubleheader split with Eastern Kentucky, while Murray State (26-19, 14-7 OVC) enters amidst a four-game win streak.This will be just the sixth OVC series meeting versus the Racers, with the Lady Govs trailing in the series 10-4; they have dropped the last seven games.
After 40 games, the Lady Govs are led offensively by Rikki Arkansas (.343/2 2B/5 RBI) and Laurel Burroughs (.336/7 HR/24 RBI).
Burroughs also enters the series leading the OVC in stolen bases with 20, while Christiana Gable leads Austin Peay with eight home runs and 30 RBIs.
Murray State is led at the plate by the OVC’s leading hitter, Jessica Twaddle, who enters the series with a .449 batting average along with six home runs and 43 RBIs.
Overall, the Racers have seven hitters batting .300-or-better this season.
In the circle, Natalie Ayala (5-12/5.21 ERA/30 Ks) leads the Lady Govs pitching staff, while CheyAnne Gaskey (15-8/2.74 ERA/105 Ks) tops the Racer pitching staff.
