Nashville Sounds strike first in 8-1 win over Oklahoma City Dodgers

Recently-promoted Zach Neal Allows One Run Over 5.0 Innings For Win

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds pounded out six runs in the first three innings on Friday night at First Tennessee Park and avoided a sweep at the hands of the Dodgers with an 8-1 victory.

Nashville improved their record to 8-8 with the win and scored more runs tonight than they had in the first three games of the series combined.

The Sounds had outscored the opponent 13-3 in the first inning coming into tonight’s action and they added to that total with three more tallies.

After an Andy Parrino walk, Max Muncy unloaded for his first home run of the season. The long ball just cleared the right field wall and it bumped the first baseman’s RBI total to 10 on the season.

The home team kept the offense going, as Jason Pridie worked a walk and scored on a Kent Matthes double. The outfielder’s fifth two-bagger of the homestand put the Sounds up 3-0 and was plenty of support for Nashville’s pitching staff.

Right-hander Zach Neal was promoted from Double-A Midland earlier in the day and made his Sounds’ debut on three days’ rest. The starter threw only 50 pitches (38 strikes) over 5.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits to secure the win. Neal recorded three strikeouts and never issued a walk.

The Sounds kept pouring the offense on as the contest continued. Alden Carrithers hit his first home run of the season in the second, a solo shot just inside the right field foul pole, and added a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Luke Carlin doubled his RBI total for the season later in the game with a double that scored a pair in the third while Pridie collected a two-bagger in the eighth that scored Muncy.

Nashville hits the road for an eight-game, nine day trip starting tomorrow against the New Orleans Zephyrs. Saturday’s game at Zephyr Field will begin at 6:00pm with Barry Zito (0-0, 7.72) going against Justin Nicolino.
