Barry Zito Allows Three Runs Over 7.0 Innings For Team’s Second Quality Start Of Season
Metaire, LA – The Sounds went quietly on Saturday night in the series opener against New Orleans, posting just six hits and falling 5-0 at Zephyr Field.
Veteran left-hander Barry Zito was the bright spot during an otherwise down game for Nashville. The starter threw 7.0 strong innings, allowing just three runs on three hits and three walks. Only one of the trio of runs were earned, as the left-hander also added three strikeouts. It was only the second quality start of the season for the Sounds’ pitching staff.
In a game that saw only 10 hits combined between the two teams, infielder Andy Parrino collected three of them. Parrino offered Nashville its best scoring chance of the night, hitting a leadoff double in the seventh. He managed to get to third with one out, but was left stranded. Blake Forsythe recorded his first multi-hit game of the season, while Jason Pridie added a single for the team’s only other hits of the night.
Nashville ended the contest by going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and leaving seven men on base.
New Orleans did their damage with two runs in both the fifth and eighth innings and a single run in the seventh. Ninth place hitter Isaac Galloway scored twice for the Zephyrs
The two teams play again tomorrow with a 1:00pm first pitch. The matchup on the mound is scheduled for Ryan Verdugo (1-1, 3.27) to go against Jose Urena.
