Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for May 3rd, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Rally on the Cumberland, Warrior Week Concert and Car / Truck, & Bike Show, R&B Step Class, Zumba, Adult Karate and Young Champions Cheerleading Program.

2015 Warrior Week

Rally on the Cumberland

Canoe & Kayak Race

Canoers and Kayakers rejoice! Registration is now open for the 3rd annual Rally on the Cumberland Canoe & Kayak Race. The race will be held July 11th but the deadline to register is July 1st. Cost to participate is $20.00 for those 18 and up and $10.00 for youth ages 13-17.

R&B Step Class

Step it out to the sounds of some of the hottest hits at R&B Step Class at the Kleeman Community Center every Monday and Thursday from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. You will learn some great dances and get yourself in shape at the same time!

Classes cost $20.00 per month with a community center ID.

Adult Karate

Relieve some stress and try something new at the Burt-Cobb Community Center with our Adult Karate class. This free class, taught by David Fivecoat, is held every Monday from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Warrior Week Concert and Car, Truck, & Bike Show

We are proud to honor all military personnel and their families on Friday, May 8th, by hosting a free concert featuring award-winning, Country artists Little Texas! This FREE concert will begin at 6:30pm at Liberty Park. Concessions will be available for purchase. The concert is open to the public and there will be concession discounts given to those with a military ID.

The 5th annual Warrior Week Car, Truck, & Bike Show will be held Saturday, May 9th beginning at 11:00am at Heritage Park. The show is open to public viewing but to enter your car, truck, or bike you must be an Active Duty or retired military, as well as members of the American Legion, DAV, and VFW with an ID card.

Over 30 trophies will be awarded, including an Outstanding Unit Award that will be awarded to the military unit that has the most show entries. Pre-registration is free to those who register by noon on Thursday, May 7th.

Onsite registration will take place from 8:00am to 9:00am and the cost will be $10.00 cash per vehicle. To register for the Car, Truck, and Bike Show, visit www.cityofclarksville.com/warriorweek to download an application.

Zumba

Get your groove on and shake off those pounds with Zumba at the Burt-Cobb Community Center! Zumba is a fun and exciting way to dance away tons of calories. In fact, you may forget you’re actually working out!

Classes are held each Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm at the Burt-Cobb Center, located at 1011 Franklin Street. The cost is just $3.00 per class with a Community Center ID.

Young Champions Cheerleading Program

The Crow Center has spirit, yes we do! Youth ages 4 to 15 can learn cheers, motion techniques, flexibility and stunts (only for ages 7 and up) in the Young Champions Cheerleading program. Young Champions is held on Mondays at the Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road.

This program encourages youth to have a fun time while being active and improving self-esteem through teamwork and achievement. Cost to participate is $7.00 per class plus an initial $7.00 registration fee. A Community Center ID is required and available for purchase at the Center.
