Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports of Scams Continue

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOMontgomery County, TN – Reports of scammers purporting to be employees of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continue to come in.

In one report, the victim said he received a call from someone claiming to be Lt. Davis with the MCSO and was told he had a warrant out for his arrest.

He was told that if he paid $996.00, the charge would go away.

The victim said he didn’t have the money, and he was told if he could pay half, it would act as bond.

The victim put $500.00 on a rechargeable card and gave the scammer the number.

Afterward, he felt he had been taken advantage of and called 911.

“Citizens should know that if you have an arrest warrant on file, we would never call and ask for money to rectify that warrant,” said Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson. “If you have a warrant on file, a well identified Deputy will come to you and arrest and take you to jail.”

If anyone calls a citizen asking for money on a rechargeable card, they are most likely scammers.
