Nashville Sounds silence Iowa Cubs 6-0, Stop Losing Skid

Kendall Graveman Goes Seven Strong To Earn Win

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds offense was clicking from the get go on Wednesday night as Nashville snapped a six-game skid with a 6-0 victory over Iowa at First Tennessee Park.

All four Sounds players with notable offensive streaks were able to keep things rolling. Joey Wendle (eight games), Jason Pridie (seven games) and Alden Carrithers (six games) all pushed their hitting streaks ahead, while Anthony Aliotti fortified his on-base streak (18 games).

The four players combined for five hits, four runs scored and three RBIs.

Nashville outhit Iowa, 12-5, and tied a season-high with four doubles in the contest. In addition, it was the first time the Sounds have shutout an opponent all year.

The home team set the tables early in Wednesday night’s game by scoring two runs in the first. Wendle reached on a fielder’s choice and Pridie moved him over with a single. Ryan Roberts followed it up by slamming his first hit at home, a double that plated the two base runners. The home team collected the runs in support of Kendall Graveman, who turned in a fabulous outing.

The right-hander was making his home debut under the lights at First Tennessee Park and he brought his plus stuff. Graveman used location and sharp movement to make it through 7.0 scoreless frames. The A’s prospect surrendered four hits with two walks and five strikeouts to earn the win. It was just the second win recorded by a Sounds’ starting pitcher this season.

Nashville kept their foot on the pedal by scoring a run in the second and two in the third. Carrithers hustled out a two-bagger and scored on a Wendle two-out RBI single. Carrithers and Bryan Anderson came home in the third when Aliotti slashed a double into the left-centerfield gap. The final run came when Anderson knocked in Roberts during the seventh inning.

Relievers Ryan Cook and Angel Castro finished things off by taking the final two frames with a combined three strikeouts and Nashville improved to 10-16 with the victory.

Nashville and Iowa finish their four-game set tomorrow at First Tennessee Park with a 7:05pm contest. Lefties Brad Mills (0-3, 5.96) and Tsuyoshi Wada will match up in the series finale.
