Nashville Sounds break loose in the fourth to get 8-6 win over Round Rock Express at First Tennessee Park

Snap Four-Game Losing Streak vs. Round Rock

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Behind a monster six-run fourth inning where the home team batted around, the Nashville Sounds defeated the Round Rock Express, 8-6, Friday night at First Tennessee Park.

The Express got out to an early lead in this one. Hanser Alberto dropped a bunt single and went to third via a perfectly executed hit-and-run with Tomas Telis. Alberto then scored on an RBI groundout by Michael Choice and the Sounds were trailing just minutes into the contest.

Next batter, Jared Hoying took Sounds starter Jarrod Parker deep to give the Express a 3-0 lead after just a half-inning of play.

The Sounds wasted no time answering right back. Joey Wendle continued his assault on the Pacific Coast League with an RBI double that plated Craig Gentry. Wendle would score on a Ryan Roberts single and the Sounds finished the first frame down just one run.

The Sounds took the lead for good in the fourth inning.  After Kent Matthes drew a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to one. The stage was set for Sounds shortstop Andy Parrino, who doubled to give the Sounds the lead. Anthony Aliotti then grounded out, picking up his 10th RBI of the season as Matthes scored.

Next man up, Gentry, hit a broken bat dribbler at Alberto who made a great play to field the ball, but then threw the ball wide of first and another run scored. Jason Pridie would single for the second time in the inning, scoring Gentry and the Sounds led 8-4.

Parker’s night came to an abrupt end with two outs in the sixth. While pitching to Tomas Telis, a Parker offering went ten feet wide of home plate and he went down in a heap. The veteran, who’s on a minor league rehab stint after missing the 2014 season due to Tommy John surgery, left the game with an undisclosed arm injury.

Hoying had a chance at the cycle in the ninth. Needing just a double against Ryan Cook, Hoying hit into a 6-3 double play. Cook would earn his second save of the season, getting the next batter to pop-up to Roberts and the Sounds won in front of a sellout crowd of 10,111.

Round Rock (17-11) will be back to play game two tomorrow night at First Tennessee Park. The Sounds (11-17) will send Arnold Leon (0-1, 5.65) to the bump. He will be opposed by Texas Rangers prospect Alex “Chi Chi” Gonzalez (1-4, 5.33). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
