Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for May 10th, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Yoga in the Park,Fun with Fido, Clarksville Downtown Market, Medical Display, Liberty Live, and Marital Arts.

2015 Fun with Fido

Yoga in the Park

What better way to start your day than with a free, morning yoga class on the banks of the Cumberland River? We have partnered with the Clarksville area YMCA once again to host Yoga in the Park every Wednesday and Friday, May 13th through June 19th. Classes will be held from 6:00am to 7:00am and will be open to all ages.

Participants must bring their own yoga mat. The participant(s) with the highest attendance at the end of the program will be eligible to receive a gift card!

Fun with Fido begins May 16th

The first Fun with Fido event is scheduled for May 16th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Heritage Park! You and your four-legged friends can enjoy activities in the park as well as dog-related businesses and organizations.

The Clarksville Downtown Market

It’s that time of year! The 2015 Clarksville Downtown Market opens on Saturday, May 16th, with approximately 70 vendors filling Public Square with local fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, home décor, seasonal flowers and more. The Clarksville Downtown Market will be open from 8:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday through October 10th on Public Square.

Opening Day of the Market will also feature live music, children’s activity, and free giveaways to the first 500 in attendance!

Medical Display

The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center will host a medical display Saturday, May 23rd from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The exhibit features presentations by Mark Britton and includes a collection of medical items used during the 19th century to include necessary tools for blood-letting, various surgical procedures and preparation of period medicinal products.

The display also includes information regarding use of indigenous herbs used in medical practices.

Liberty Live Continues

The Liberty Live Summer Concert Series continues June 5th with country-artist and former American Idol contestant, Emily Minor! Emily will hit the stage at 6:30pm at the Liberty Park Amphitheater. Admission is free and concessions will be for sale onsite. Guests are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets but please, no pets or outside alcohol.

Marital Arts

Learn something new at the Crow Community Center this summer! Martial Arts classes are available for ages 3 and older from recreational level to even the international level. Marital Arts classes will take place on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm- 8:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am-11:00am.

The goal of the classes are to assist each student in developing skills that will assist them in becoming a well-rounded individual; building their skills in physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual ways.

There are required monthly fees for members to attend classes as well as a Community Center ID. The monthly fee for individuals is $70;00, 2 individuals is $100;00, 3 individuals is $125.00, and 4 or more individuals (in a household) is $135.00.
