Tennessee Department of Transportation reports I-24 in Montgomery County to Close for Weekend Bridge Work starting Friday, May 15th

Traffic to Utilize On- & Off-Ramps at Rossview Road

Tennessee Department of TransportationClarksville, TN – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close a short section of Interstate 24 and State Route 237 (Rossview Road) in Clarksville to prepare for bridge removal starting this Friday.

During the closures, traffic will use the on- and off-ramps at SR 237.

These operations will likely create lengthy delays for traffic on I-24. All traffic will be detoured off the interstate at Exit 8 and immediately back onto the interstate using the exit and entrance ramps.

The bridge over the interstate will be closed to allow interstate traffic to maintain flow across the ramps. Although the ramps will be accessible, motorists are advised to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes if possible.

The work is scheduled as follows:

  • Friday, May 15th, 8:00pm through Monday, May 18th, 5:00am – I-24 eastbound (only) and SR 237 bridge over I-24 will be closed.

The Park & Ride facility on Rossview Road will also be closed from Friday at 6:00pm to Monday at 5:00am during each of the weekend interstate closures. Motorists returning to the facility after 6:00pm Friday will be escorted to the lot to retrieve their vehicles.

Message boards are in place to alert motorists to the road closures. Tennessee Highway Patrol and TDOT HELP trucks will also be on-site to assist with traffic.

The scheduled closures are weather dependent. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent work from occurring as scheduled, the time will be adjusted or the work will be rescheduled.

The lane closures are necessary to access, remove, and contain asbestos from under the bridge. Later this year, the old bridge will be removed and a new bridge will be built. The work is part of a $12.9 million project that will modify the interchange and widen SR 237 in Montgomery County.
