Nashville Sounds get 6-2 win over New Orleans Zephyrs at First Tennessee Park

Right-Hander Kendall Graveman Allows Two Unearned Runs Over 7.0 Innings

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Kendall Graveman delivered a stellar start for Nashville and the Sounds snapped their four-game losing skid with a 6-2 win over New Orleans at First Tennessee Park on Sunday.

The Sounds’ offense notched seven hits on the afternoon and helped the squad improve to 14-23 on the year. Matt Carson led the way by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Alden Carrithers pushed his hitting streak to 12 games. The support backed Graveman, who notched his second win of the season.

The right-hander was making his fourth start for the Sounds and made it through 7.0 innings with 86 pitches. The stellar start included Graveman putting down 14 in a row at one point.

He allowed two unearned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks. The quality start was the seventh for the Sounds’ staff this month, while the 7.0 innings of work was just the fourth time a Nashville starter has went that far in a contest.

The Sounds snatched the momentum early in the contest by scoring their 28th run of the season in the first inning. Carson got hit to lead off the game and was followed by singles from Joey Wendle, Jason Pridie and Andy Parrino. Parrino’s base hit plated Carson and Nashville claimed the 1-0 lead.

The home team went right back to it in the second when Carson unloaded a two-run shot. The home run was the outfielder’s first homer since August 25, 2014, and catcher Luke Carlin, who had worked a two-out walk, scored as well.

The Zephyrs finally got on the board in the seventh with a pair of unearned runs. Graveman’s throwing error on a play at first aided New Orleans, as Vinny Rottino and Isaac Galloway both scored.

Nashville grabbed insurance in the late when Niuman Romero and Anthony Aliotti both recorded RBI singles. Ryan Cook entered in the eighth with one out and finished the game by getting the five-out save.

The two clubs are back at it again on Monday night at First Tennessee Park. Brad Mills (1-4, 5.06) will have the ball for Nashville while New Orleans will send out Jose Urena.
