Fort Campbell gets visit from Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – General Raymond T. Odierno, the Army chief of staff, visited Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) May 14th-15th.

The two-day visit to Fort Campbell allowed the Army’s top general to engage commanders, soldiers and leaders and discuss topics about the Army’s vision of Force 2025 and beyond.

“I know many of you are asking the question ‘will we continue to deploy?’ and the answer is yes,” said Odierno. “Because the stabilizing force around the world is the United States Army.”

According to an Army document on the topic, the Army’s vision of Force 2025 and beyond is to develop land power concepts and capabilities for the Joint Force as integrated and innovative solutions into doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education.

This effort will examine the multi-domain challenges the nation faces and the ways and means for Army forces to operate decisively across the full spectrum of operations in every domain.

During this time of uncertainty and difficulty, Army leadership has to deal with budget issues at the same time as downsizing, said Odierno.

“We have to do this in a way to where we are taking care of our soldiers but also preparing those for future missions,” said Odierno.

Rhodes, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Public Affairs)In addition to the town hall meeting, Odierno’s trip included speaking with senior Fort Campbell officials, handing out coins to the division’s Soldier and noncommissioned officer of the year, and viewing air assault demonstrations at The Sabalauski Air Assault School.

Odierno thanked the Fort Campbell Soldiers for their efforts and accomplishments.

“Fort Campbell plays a critical role in everything we do in our Army,” said Odierno. “Whether it’s air assault operations to Special Forces operations, you are vital to our Army.”
