Nashville Sounds fall 5-3 at Fresno Grizzlies

Pridie Extends Hitting Streak to Season-Best Nine Games

Nashville SoundsFresno, CA – Ryan Roberts hit his first home run of the season, but it was not enough as Nashville lost to Fresno 5-3 at Chukchansi Park on Sunday afternoon.

The early stages of the game were characterized by multiple lead changes. The Grizzlies put up two second inning runs on Sounds’ starter Chris Bassitt, who was making his return to the Sounds starting rotation after stints in both the Oakland A’s and Nashville Sounds bullpens.

The Sounds wasted zero time getting back in to the game the next half-inning. Alden Carrithers singled and he scored on the Roberts’ homer.

The Sounds took the lead a few batters later when Kent Matthes drove Ben Zobrist in with an RBI groundout. The lead was short-lived as Fresno would tie the game back up in the latter half of the frame.

The Sounds got runners to second and third with one out, but were unable to score in the top of the fourth. Fresno took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of Matt Dominguez. They never trailed again.

Jon Singleton hit his minor-league leading 14th home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-3 as he led off the bottom of the sixth. The blast came off rehabbing Athletics closer Sean Doolittle. The southpaw also gave up a wall-ball double off the bat of Tyler Heineman during his one inning of work.

Niuman Romero hit his second double of the game with one out in the ninth inning, but Kevin Chapman stranded him there to get his second save.

Nashville will look to get back on track tomorrow at Sacramento. Sean Nolin will get the ball for the Sounds. He will be opposed by Clayton Robertson. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05pm.
