Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will add infield depth this offseason, beginning with middle infielder Max Remy, of Reedsville, Pennsylvania, who will join the Governors for the 2016 season.

The 6-0, 160-pound Remy was a middle infielder for Mifflin County High School where he batted .363 with a .511 on-base percentage as a senior.

He helped lead the Huskies to the Pennsylvania District 6-AAAA semifinal round and was a first-team All-Mid Penn Conference Commonwealth Division selection.

“Max is a player that really excites me,” said head coach Gary McClure. “He’s a young man who is an outstanding student. Max also is a good communicator both on and off the field and has what I believe to be great leadership skills. What I like most about Max is that he is an energy giver who is very driven and makes others around him better.”

Remy batted .360 as a sophomore and posted a .534 on-base percentage with nine walks against just five strikeouts in 35 plate appearances.

Austin Peay’s middle infield was manned by Garrett Copeland and Clayton Smithson for the bulk of the season. The Govs also utilized Imani Willis and Alex Robles when Smithson suffered an injury that cost him 23 games.

Copeland again provided the Govs with a start in all 51 games (45 at second base) during 2015. Smithson made 28 starts (all at shortstop) with Willis adding 18 starts (16 at shortstop) and Robles made three starts as a middle infielder. All four of those players will return for the 2016 season.

“Max is a player that I see playing both shortstop and second base early in his career with the ability to take over at shortstop at some point,” McClure said. “He has outstanding actions as a middle infielder and I believe he is ready to play defense at this level right now. I really like his swing and as Max continues to get stronger he has a chance to be a very good player for us.”

Remy is the fifth addition to the Austin Peay’s 2016 baseball roster. He joins infielder Parker Phillips, of Collierville, TN; left-handed pitcher Austin Higginbotham, of Gainesville, Georgia; left-handed pitcher Brett Newberg, of Moline, Illinois; and catcher Alex Sala, of Germantown, TN.
