Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will be featuring Cuban artist Mayda Saborit’s paintings in the alcove gallery at the rear of the first floor with an opening on Friday, June 19th.

Saborit’s painterly and colorful oils capture the feel of Cuba from street life to beautiful landscapes.

Since she is not yet fluent in English, her paintings are her way of communicating who she is. The show is entitled “Corazon Cubano” or “Cuban Heart.”

Mayda Saborit was born in Cuba under the Castro totalitarian regime. She and her husband fled Cuba to escape the “captivity” of the island. She had always been interested in the arts, though she does not come from a family of artists.

Saborit’s children were held in Cuba as she and her husband traveled in Europe looking for freedom and a way to reunite with their children, which happened in 2005 after eighteen months separation. They finally ended up in the United States where Mayda’s husband Liuver Saborit now serves in the US Army at Fort Campbell.
