The Rotary Park project was the only winner  in the category of Accessibility Enhancements.

These national awards, which honor Tom Petri, a former Member of Congress from Wisconsin and longtime champion of the RTP, were presented at a special Capitol Hill ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 10th, as part of the celebration for Great Outdoors Month.

Montgomery County County Mayor Jim Durrett states, “It is a great honor to win a national award for one of our trails. We are very proud of our parks and this award recognizes that Montgomery County has great parks and trails for our citizens. Our Parks Director Jerry Allbert and County Engineer Nick Powell are to be commended for their work on this project. If you haven’t been to Rotary Park in a while, I encourage you to go. It is a hidden jewel, with breathtaking trails, that the whole family will enjoy!”

Rotary Park consists of 111 acres, with five total miles of walking, biking and hiking trails of various terrain. In March of 2012 Montgomery County was awarded a $120,000 RTP grant for the ADA accessible Trail. This trail was completed and opened in May 2014.

The trail is constructed of multiple surfaces, including concrete, composite decking boardwalks and graded chert to allow access for all citizens to enjoy the serene setting provided by this natural park.
