Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s men and women’s cross-country teams unveiled their 2015 slates, Wednesday, which are highlighted by the second Austin Peay Cross Country Festival as well as trips to the Greater Louisville Classic and the Cross-Country Only National Invitational.

The Governors and Lady Govs will open the 2015 season with three consecutive meets inside Tennessee borders. The season begins September 5th at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic hosted by Christian Brothers.

Six days later the squads will travel to the other side of the state for the September 11th Powerade Invitational, hosted by Chattanooga.

Austin Peay will round out September by again hosting its own meet, September 25th, at the Hilldale Baptist Family Life Center. It is the second year for the event, which head coach Doug Molnar hopes to expand.

“We are looking forward to hosting the APSU Cross Country Festival again this year,” said Molnar. “The event will grow and include elementary-age kids up to our college event. It should be a great atmosphere and the facility at the Hilldale Baptist Family Life Center was an excellent venue last season.”

Austin Peay also will return to the Greater Louisville Classic – one of the largest cross-country meets in the country. Last season 228 college teams competed in the Greater Louisville Classic, a number that should be bolstered in 2015 as E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park will host the Division I cross-country Championships to end the season.

Two weeks later the men’s cross-country team will travel to Richmond, Virginia, for the Cross-Country Only National Invitational. As the name implies, the event is open only to cross-country teams without a corresponding track and field team.

“The trips to Louisville and Richmond will be special for different reasons,” Molnar said. “Louisville always puts on one of the greatest cross-country exhibitions in the country and it will be even bigger this season as a lot of Division I teams make the trip to get a look at the course. Our men’s team is looking forward to the Richmond trip and I believe it will be a competitive meet for them.”

The 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Halloween, October 31st, at Murray State. Two weeks later the Govs and Lady Govs will have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Cross Country South Regional hosted by Alabama.
