Nashville Sounds blank Colorado Springs Sky Sox at First Tennessee Park, 2-0

Right-Hander Allows Two Hits Over Seven Scoreless To Earn Win

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Making just his second start of the season for the Sounds, Nathan Long delivered seven shutout innings and guided Nashville to a 2-0 victory over Colorado Springs at First Tennessee Park on Wednesday night.

The shutout was the seventh the Sounds have posted this season. Nashville improved to 5-3 in the second half and has taken seven of the first 10 from the Sky Sox this season.

Long set the tone of the game for the Sounds. After Colorado Springs hung nine runs on Nashville pitching last night, the right-hander silenced the Sky Sox and limited them to just two hits.

Long, who was selected as a Texas League All-Star but skipped the game on Wednesday night to fly to Nashville, lasted seven scoreless innings.

After a two-out single in the first, he retired 11 straight batters before issuing his only walk in the fifth. Elian Herrera had two singles off Long, the only hits he surrendered.

The Sounds backed their starter by scratching out the game’s only two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With two away in the frame, Dayan Viciedo hit a double into the right field corner and plated when Jason Pridie followed with a soft fly ball to center. Pridie, who was selected as a PCL All-Star earlier in the day, scored all the way from first when Jake Smolinski hit a rocket to the wall that went for a double.

The two teams combined for just 10 hits, as Nashville outhit Colorado Springs, 6-4. Andy Parrino had the Sounds’ lone multi-hit game and Ryan Roberts collected a double in his third straight contest.

Arnold Leon struck out a pair in the eighth and Ryan Cook picked up his seventh save by leaving runners on the corners to end the game.

The Sounds and Sky Sox play the third game of their series on Thursday night at First Tennessee Park. Former Sound Hiram Burgos will get the ball for the Sky Sox while the Sounds have yet to name their starter. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
