Clarksville, TN – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Kelly Potter was off duty and taking a friend to work early Sunday morning around 5:45am when he observed a suspicious silver car pulled over on the side of Highway 12. He then saw a young white male running from the Glenstone Springs neighborhood and across a field carrying a large black box.
The subject ran to the silver car, threw the item into the car, jumped in the passenger seat, and the car took off. Deputy Potter said he was able to get the license plate number and called 911 while following the car.
At one point, the suspect vehicle started driving too fast, and Deputy Potter decided he would stop following the car (in the interest of safety).
Clarksville Police Officers met Deputy Potter at the entrance to the Glenstone Springs neighborhood.
CPD Officer Coz Minetos stated, “We were able to check the tag number and determine it belonged to 18-year-old Micheal Sprague at 519 Rotary Hills Court. While at Glenstone Springs we discovered a vehicle had been broken into at the 600 block of East Glenridge Lane where a black speaker box, an amplifier, an in-dash car stereo faceplate, and the keys to the vehicle were stolen.”
“CPD Officer John Matos saw the suspect vehicle parked at 519 Rotary Hills Court, and we all converged on the house and made contact with Sprague. CPD Sgt Nathan Vanatta and I spoke to Sprague and were able to get information from him. Sprague said he was called by a juvenile that told him he needed help and to come get him on Highway 12,” said Minetos. “Sprague said he picked up the juvenile, who had a lot of different property with him, and he did not want to be a part of it.”
“Sprague said that he told the juvenile to get out of his car and dropped him off near Circle Drive. Sprague gave us the name of the juvenile. CPD Officers Matos and Allen Pendarvis were able to locate the juvenile in an apartment on Circle Drive along with all the property taken from the East Glenridge Drive burglary and property from three other vehicle burglaries we were not aware of yet,” stated Minetos.
CPD Detective Channing Bartel was called out to help investigate. In an interview, Detective Bartel was able to get the juvenile to confess and obtained information on where the other three burglaries occurred and all the property that was taken from each of the burglaries. All the property was recovered and will soon be returned to their owners.
Officer Coz Minetos said, “I would like to say that the initial observation of this suspicious activity by MCSO Deputy Potter and the coordination with the CPD was picture perfect! The great teamwork between the two agencies resulted in the apprehension of two suspects (Sprague and the juvenile), the discovery of four vehicle burglaries that occurred overnight, and the recovery of all the stolen property.”
