Jones returned to the NCAA East for a third consecutive season, finishing 28th overall in Jacksonville.

The Memphis, TN native earned the honor from the coaches association for the second consecutive year, and it pairs nicely with her Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar honor that she was accorded in May.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
  • For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Jones was one of 13 Ohio Valley Conference student-athletes to earn USTFCCCA honors, joining Eastern Illinois’ Kristen Paris, Murray State’s Ashley Conway, Southeast Missouri’s Sarah Hall, Tennessee State’s Clairwin Dameus and Amber Hughes, SIU Edwardsville’s LaDonna Caston, Brittney Gibbs and Brittany Thomas. Ann Eason, Alena Galertova, Julie Mathisen and Carina Schrempf of Eastern Kentucky gave the Colonels an OVC-best four representatives.

“It is another honor for Breigh as she continues to showcase her talents on the track and in the classroom,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “She is truly the definition of a student-athlete.”

As a team, Austin Peay’s 3.07 grade-point average placed it as one of 224 squads to earn team honors. In all, nine OVC squads were represented – Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, SIU Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri also earned team accolades.

“We are very excited anytime you can have your team recognized for academic achievement,” Molnar said. “This speaks to the fact that we have not only outstanding athletes, but we have true student-athletes. Every year we set this as a goal and I am very proud of the hard work that they have put in. It is also a credit to our academic staff of Sonia Bain and Xaviera Toussaint and the tremendous job that they do working with our team.”
