Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for August 2nd, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Learn the fundamentals of Archery, Summer Liberty Live Concert Series, Select City Pools to extend season through Labor Day and Riverfest.

Learn the fundamentals of Archery

A few spots remain in Burt-Cobb Community Center’s youth archery program that kicks off August 10th and runs through August 31st. This introductory program teaches the basic fundamentals of the sport. Participants will learn basic shooting techniques, safety rules and different bow types.

Classes for youth archery are held on Mondays at 4:00pm and are open to youth ages 9-13. Cost is only $15.00 for the entire monthly session. Be sure to snag a spot before class begins!

All equipment will be provided. No outside equipment is allowed. Participants must wear closed toed shoes. Community center ID is required.

Last Concert of Summer Liberty Live Series August 7th

The Liberty Live summer concert series returns for the final concert of the series at Liberty Park on Friday, August 7th! The last concert in the series will feature the alternative rock group, Darling Parade and local band Sons of the Cumberland.

Admission is free but concessions will be available for purchase. The show is set to begin at 6:30pm at Liberty Park.

Liberty Live is a free, summer concert series held at Liberty Park on the first Friday of May, June, and August.

Select City Pools to extend season through Labor Day

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be closing their public pools for the summer season on Sunday, August 9th. However, New Providence and Beachaven Pools will be extending their summer swim season. Current summer pool passes will be honored during the extended hours.

New Providence Pool will remain open August 10th through September 6th from 9:00am until noon, Monday through Friday, as well as from noon to 6:00pm on Saturdays and from 1:00pm to 6:00pm on Sundays. Lap swim is available Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 9:00am. New Providence Pool will be open from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Labor Day, September 7th.

Beachaven Pool will remain open on the weekends, August 15th through September 6th from 10:00am until 6:00pm on Saturdays and from 1:00pm to 6:00pm on Sundays. Beachaven Pool will be open from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Labor Day, September 7th.

Just because the summer is coming to a close, doesn’t mean that swimming will! The Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, currently New Providence Pool, will open its doors for its indoor season Thursday, October 1st.

Riverfest, September 10th-12th, 2015

Back for the 28th year, Riverfest is Clarksville’s oldest outdoor music festival. Set on the banks of the Cumberland River, this FREE celebration showcases the music, art, family recreation, and culture that make Clarksville great.

Join us for three days full of fun, from everyone’s favorite, the Riverfest Regatta, to the brand new Human Foosball Tournament. The Riverfest Art Experience kicks off Thursday night at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. The evening includes a juried art show, film festival, food trucks, beer, and prizes.

Then Friday and Saturday the Festival is in full swing at McGregor Park with three stages of entertainment, the Earth Explorers Kids’ Area, and brand-new scuba diving experience!
