Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for August 16th, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: New program offers, PE to homeschool students, Program to offer a class in basic fly fishing, and Riverfest Juried Art Show.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation's Youth and Teen Fly Fishing program

New program offers PE to homeschool students

The Crow Community Center and Kleeman Community Center are excited to offer a new fitness program for homeschool students in grades K-12 beginning September 2nd. Registration opens August 18th.

Crow Center

  • Thursdays at 1:00pm – Grades K-6
  • Thursdays at 2:00pm – Grades 7-12

Kleeman Center

  • Wednesdays at 10:00am – Grades K-6
  • Wednesdays at 12:00pm – Grades 7-12

The cost of the program is $3.00 per visit or $10.00 per month for each student. A Community Center ID is required. ID cards can be purchased for $5.00 and are valid for one calendar year at all three Community Centers.

Space remains in Fly Fishing program for youth and teens!

Do you like fishing? Are you interested in aquatic environments? Clarksville Parks and Recreation has once again teamed up with the National Fishing in Schools Program

Program to offer a class in basic fly fishing!

Class will be held at the Crow Community Center on Thursdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, September 3rd – September 24th, and is open to grades 6-12. The cost of the class is $10.00 per person.

A Community Center ID is required and can be purchased for $5.00. Center IDs are good for one calendar year at all three Community Centers.

Space is available but limited, so sign up now using the registration link found at www.cityofclarksville.com. Registration can also be completed at any of our three community centers as well as our main office, located at 102 Public Square.

Riverfest Juried Art Show

The Juried Art Show showcases the work of local professionals, amateurs, and aspiring artists in four divisions: professional, amateur, senior, and youth. The following categories are open to all divisions:

  • Photography and Digital Media
  • Painting (includes acrylic, oil, and watercolor)
  • Drawing
  • 2D Mixed Media
  • 3D Sculpture and Fiber Arts

Submitted artwork will be juried and artwork will be selected for inclusion in the public display on September 10th at Liberty Park as part of the Riverfest Art Experience. First, second, and third place will be awarded in each of the five (5) categories for each division. A limited number of Honorable Mention ribbons may also be awarded.

Monetary awards will be given for first place, second place, and third place in the professional, amateur, and youth divisions. Recognition will be given for first place, second place, and third place in the Senior Division.

Pre-registration is required. Registration ends on Monday, August 31st. All submission rules and entry fees for each division are available on the website.

Artists may register online by visiting www.clarksvilleriverfest.com or download the application and submit it in person to the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department at 102 Public Square.
