Nashville Sounds see early lead evaporate in 9-4 loss to El Paso Chihuahuas

Aaron Brooks Takes No-Decision In Solid Debut

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds fell victim to a late-inning surge on Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park and lost the series finale to the Chihuahuas, 9-4.

The Chihuahuas put up the game’s initial strike in the first to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Alex Dickerson collected his seventh hit of the series, this one clearing the right field wall and landing amongst the crowd gathered in The Band Box. The solo shot was hit off Sounds starter Aaron Brooks, who was making his team debut.

Brooks had made four outings with the Oakland A’s after the July trade with the Kansas City Royals but had been optioned to the Sounds on August 16th and added to the roster earlier on Tuesday.

He entered the matchup with the seventh-best ERA in the PCL, a mark which stayed the exact same following his five innings of work.

The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits, adding a trio of strikeouts with his 59 pitches. He did not walk a batter in the outing and took a no-decision.

Nashville placed a three-spot on the board with four hits in the second. Jason Pridie led off with his 20th double of the season and scored two batters later when Rangel Ravelo fisted a fly ball to center.

Ravelo and Max Muncy both plated later in the frame when Brent Morel extended his hitting streak to six games with another double. Morel finished the night with a pair of doubles and upped his season RBI total to 11.

Joey Wendle increased the advantage in the fifth with his seventh home run of the season. The solo bomb cleared the short porch in right and pushed the Nashville lead to 4-2. It was Wendle’s first home run since July 2nd.

The El Paso offense never let the deficit grow insurmountable and responded with four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. Dickerson set the pace for the sixth frame, tripling to kick it off and scoring later. The visitors went on to outhit the Sounds, 14-12.

Four runs were charged to Brock Huntzinger, who left in the sixth with the bases loaded and had two of his stranded runners score. The reliever fell to 3-3 by taking the loss.

With half of the eight-game homestand complete, Nashville now turns its attention to the Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A Colorado Rockies) for four games. Right-hander Cody Martin (2-3, 5.14) will face John Lannan (6-7, 5.50) in the 7:05pm series opener at First Tennessee Park.
