Nashville Sounds rally comes up short in 5-4 loss at Reno Aces

Brent Morel Stays Hot With Another Multi-Hit Game

Nashville SoundsReno, NV – For the first time since 2013, the Nashville Sounds were defeated by the Reno Aces, falling, 5-4 at Aces Ballpark.

Reno put Nashville starter Zach Neal in a precarious position to start the first inning, placing runners on the corners with no outs for the dangerous Nick Evans. Neal traded the run for a double play, and the Sounds went to the second in a 1-0 hole.

After posting 21 hits the night before, the Sounds picked right up where they left off in the second. Rangel Ravelo singled to lead off the frame and Nate Freiman walked.

Craig Gentry then singled in Ravelo to tie the game. Freiman then scored on a would-be double play hit by Bryan Anderson, but shortstop Danny Worth’s bad throw on the turn to first allowed the inning to continue.

After the first, Neal kept Reno hitless until the fifth. Brandon Drury and Nick Buss both singled to start that frame, but it was Todd Glaesmann that delivered the big blow, depositing Neal’s offering over the wall in right-center. Phil Gosselin then doubled in Mike Freeman later in the inning to make it 5-2.

The Sounds loaded the bases with one out a half-inning later, but were unable to score. The visitors would put two more runners in scoring position with no outs after a Ryan Roberts’ single and Jason Pridie’ double to start the eighth. Both runners would come around to score via RBI by Brent Morel and Freiman.

Unfortunately for Nashville, they could not get anything going in the ninth as Kaleb Fleck shut the door.

Despite going seven innings, Neal took the Sounds first loss to Reno in the team’s last eight matchups, while Caleb Clay earned the win. The loss also snapped an overall four-game winning streak for Nashville.

The two teams are back at it tomorrow night at 9:05pm Cody Martin (2-4, 5.63) will start for Nashville. He will be opposed by A.J. Schugel (2-6, 10.64).
