After the Lady Govs received the ball to start the match, Ole Miss forced a quick turnover to gain possession in the second minute. The Rebels marched into the APSU attacking third, where a short cross was delivered near the keeper. After a volley was deflected, CeCe Kizer guided the ball into the net on the follow.

In the 17th minute, Danielle Gray found a couple creases in the Austin Peay defense down the left flank. Once she entered the box, Addie Forbus was left open on the far side for the second goal after a cross met her foot.

Ole Miss continued to win the battle for possession in the midfield, and earned a 30th minute free kick just across midfield after the Lady Govs committed their sixth foul of the half. A strike was delivered to the left post, and Jessica Hiskey was waiting unmarked for a header.

As the second half kicked off, Kizer’s touches steadily increased to lead the Rebels. In the 57th minute, the forward charged into the box, and powered a shot to the right of the keeper for an insurance goal.

With under five minutes to play, Bella Fiorenzo took advantage of a giveaway and sent home a fifth goal for Ole Miss.

“Playing games like this will help the team moving forward, because we experienced many situations where weaknesses were exploited,” Austin Peay head coach Kelley Guth said. “We can now address these problem areas in training and improve upon them in future games.”

Despite allowing four goals, sophomore Lindsey Todd remained aggressive in goal. The starting keeper made seven saves in 67 minutes before senior Nikki Filippone entered to wrap up the match.

Freshman McKenzie Dixon and sophomore Caroline Wistrom each took a shot on goal for the Lady Govs. Ole Miss out-shot APSU 24-4 in the match.

Austin Peay continues its road trip on September 4th-6th as the Lady Govs travel to Mobile, AL, to compete against Troy and South Alabama in the Jaguar Classic.
