Clarksville, TN – Lightning strikes in the area cut short Austin Peay State University’s annual Fall Sports Fan Day, presented by Mountain Dew, Sunday. But it was not before more than 1,000 fans flooded the turf of Governors Stadium, to meet most of the Governors and Lady Govs athletes.
In addition, members from the Austin Peay cheer and dance teams—along with The Gov and Governor Peay X—were on hand to greet fans as they came through the inflatable helmet. Fall sport schedule cards were distributed to interested fans.
Austin Peay enthusiasts enjoyed pizza from Domino’s and Dairy Queen ice cream, two of Austin Peay’s corporate partners, while younger fans enjoyed a variety of inflatables, many that will be back next Saturday at Tailgate Alley prior to Govs’ season-opening 4:00pm football game against Mercer.In addition, fans can get first glimpse of Austin Peay’s young volleyball team, which opens its home schedule 7:00pm, Tuesday, against Evansville. The Lady Govs and Governors cross country teams will open their season, Saturday, in Memphis, for the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.
The event was barely an hour old when lightning and dark clouds to the northwest, with APSU officials being forced to ask the fans to depart the event.
