Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announces State will Fund Repairs to Swan Lake

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Mayor Kim McMillan has been advised by an official with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), State Parks, that funds have been approved to repair the spillway/dam at Dunbar Cave State Park.

The project has already been approved by the State Building Commission.

“For some time, we’ve been working with the State to determine who could best address the issues at Swan Lake. Since it is located on State Park grounds, TDEC has taken the lead and has now received the funding necessary to make the repairs,” explained Mayor McMillan.

“I am very appreciative of the persistence and work by the TDEC staff to make these needed repairs,” said Mayor McMillan.

According to TDEC, the design process may be lengthy because of the necessary investigation and research required to ensure the long-term safety of the dam.  After the design phase is complete, the State will begin the bid process to retain a contractor.  The Tennessee Department of General Services will direct the process throughout completion of the repairs.

  1. That’s great. It’s a shame it couldn’t be done before all of the fish died. It was a sad sight to behold – driving by and seeing them belly up on the drying lake bed with all of the buzzards circling and hopping around. I don’t know enough to speak on what other kind of wildlife might have been lost, except what I saw. I know things happen but I think it’s sad. We loved going and walking there.
