APSU Lady Govs Soccer takes on Troy and South Alabama at Jaguar Classic

Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team looks to end its four-game road trip on a positive note as the Lady Govs travel to Mobile, AL, this weekend, to face Troy and South Alabama in the Jaguar Classic.

The Lady Govs (1-2-1) faced an uphill battle last Sunday at Ole Miss, dropping below .500 after a 5-0 defeat. The offense was slowed as the Rebels held a 24-4 shot advantage, leading to a one-sided game in the midfield. But after a solid week of training, Austin Peay’s mix of veterans and youthful talent look to bounce back over the weekend.

Troy (4-1-0) seeks its fourth-straight win after a strong start to 2015. The Trojans, who were picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, narrowly lost 1-0 to SEC power Alabama before three consecutive victories over Alabama State, UT Martin and Louisiana Tech.

Preseason All-Conference selection Alissa Jones, along with Brooke McKee and Abby Reynolds, lead Troy in scoring with two goals each.

The host Jaguars are holders of a 4-0-0 record to start the season, the first time that feat has been accomplished in program history. South Alabama received three votes in the September 1st NSCAA Division I Poll after being selected to win the Sun Belt. Sophomore Charde Hannah leads the squad with three goals on 14 shots, while the net minder pairing of Courtney Baum and Sarah Hay have combined to allow just two goals.

Last Time Against

South Alabama: The Jaguars traveled to Clarksville on September 14th, 2012 for the fifth encounter between Austin Peay and South Alabama. The result was a 1-0 overtime victory by the visitors, dropping APSU to 1-3-1 all-time against South Alabama. In a goalkeeper showcase, Haylee Shoaff allowed just one goal – in the 105th minute – after the Jaguars attempted 13 shots.

Keep An Eye On

APSU Lindsey ToddSophomore Lindsey Todd has remained aggressive in goal for Austin Peay in three starts. The Brentwood, TN native has made 14 saves (.636 save percentage) and is 1-2-0 on the year, with her lone win being a shutout over Chattanooga.

Freshman forward McKenzie Dixon has put a shot on goal in each of her first three collegiate games, and is second on the team in total shots with five.

As the Lady Govs have focused on becoming more of a threat on the offensive end of the pitch, the outside backs have made runs forward to whip in crosses or test the keeper with shots. Freshman Sydney Dawson has been keen on finding space on the right flank, delivering the game-winning assist at Chattanooga. On the opposite side, Caroline Wistrom has three shots this season after transitioning to a defensive player.
