Austin Peay’s Ashley Slay named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Slay, of the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Slay started her week off right with a career-high 18 kills in Austin Peay’s home opener against Evansville and tied her career high with eight blocks against the Purple Aces. She built on that performance with an exemplary three matches at the Blazer Invitational, posting 30 total kills and a .519 attack percentage against Savannah State, Florida International and UAB, leading the Lady Govs in kills in all three matches in Birmingham, AL.

A Nashville native, Slay earned adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Monday—her first career weekly OVC honor.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore wide receiver Jared Beard, of the football team, equaled his career-high with seven receptions for 85 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown, in the Govs season-opener against Mercer.
  • Sophomore Martin Rejman, of the men’s cross country team, broke the school four-mile record with a 20:44.42 mark that placed him 21st out of 258 runners at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, Saturday.
  • Sophomore keeper Lindsey Todd, of the soccer team, posted 13 saves in Austin Peay’s pair of matches at the Jaguar Classic, including eight against host South Alabama.
