Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for September 13th, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Paralympic Experience, Learn the fundamentals of archery and Movies in the Park.

Into the Woods

Paralympic Experience

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with the Tennessee Association of Blind Athletes and the National Federation of the Blind Paralympic Sport Clarksville to host the Paralympic Experience on Saturday, September 26th at the Heritage Park Softball Complex from 10:00am until 2:00pm.

This event is open to youth and adults at least 8-years-old, including active duty service members and veterans, with physical and visual disabilities, regardless of skill level.

The Paralympic Experience will feature an introduction to many adaptive sporting events. Games will be played recreationally, but will still be scored for a little competitive fun. Activities include Goal Ball, Archery, Beep Kickball, Beep Baseball, Disc Golf, Tandem Cycling and Run/Walk. Players can enjoy games designed specifically for them and learn more about Paralympic Sport Club Clarksville.

Parents and other family members, as well as other members of the public, are invited to participate and experience all that Paralympic Sport Clarksville has to offer.

U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, and the City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation department partnered in May 2012 to create Paralympic Sport Clarksville. This is just one of many events planned for the future.

Learn the fundamentals of Archery

Registration is now open for a new session of Burt-Cobb’s youth archery program that kicks off October 5th and runs through October 26th. This introductory program teaches the basic fundamentals of the sport. Participants will learn basic shooting techniques, safety rules and different bow types.

Classes for youth archery are held on Mondays at 4:00pm and are open to youth ages 9-13. Cost is only $15.00 for the entire monthly session. Be sure to snag a spot before class begins!

All equipment will be provided. No outside equipment is allowed. Participants must wear closed toed shoes. Community center ID is required.

Movies in the Park continues with Disney’s Into the Woods

Don’t miss your chance to see Into the Woods on the big screen Saturday, September 26th as part of the 2015 Movies in the Park.

Admission is free. The movie screening will begin at sunset, 7:00pm at Liberty Park Amphitheater, located at 1188 Cumberland Drive. Food will be available for purchase on-site. Guests are invited to bring picnic baskets, blankets, and lawn chairs. Please leave your pets and alcohol at home.
